UX/UI Design Design System Development Property Search and Filtering Multilingual Interface Design

2024

Sotheby’s International Realty Spain required a digital platform capable of presenting exceptional properties across mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands to an international audience. As lead web designer, I evolved the visual language established for the UK platform, expanding its design system for the content, localisation and search requirements of the Spanish market. The work introduced a simpler homepage search, interactive map, advanced property filters and more direct enquiry journeys, alongside new property and agent components. Every element was designed across Spanish, English and German, balancing clarity and consistency despite the different spatial requirements of each language.

The project required an established digital language to adapt to a broader geographical and operational context without losing its connection to the global brand. I developed the UK design system further, creating and refining components to support Spain’s property portfolio, regional content and multilingual requirements. Layouts, controls and content structures were tested across three languages, accounting for changes in word length, line wrapping and interface density while maintaining a consistent hierarchy across screen sizes.

Property discovery was a central area of UX development. I redesigned the homepage around a simpler and more effective search bar, reducing the steps required to begin exploring the portfolio. New property filters allow buyers to refine results according to their priorities, while a structured tagging system improves the organisation and identification of listings. These features work alongside the interactive map, where available properties update according to the location currently in view.

Users can move between map and list formats depending on whether they begin their search through location or property specifications. The combined search system supports exploration across Madrid, Barcelona, Marbella, Seville and the Balearic Islands without overwhelming the interface. Together, the simplified entry point, detailed filters, property tags and geographic search create a more flexible journey through a large and varied portfolio of luxury residences.

I also redesigned the property pages around clearer calls to action, making it easier for prospective buyers to contact the agent responsible for an individual listing by email. Live chat introduced an additional route for immediate assistance, while new agent cards and filtering tools made the wider team easier to browse and contact. These changes connected property discovery more directly with enquiry, without compromising the restrained and editorial character of the Sotheby’s digital experience.

The resulting platform brings property search, regional content, listings and agent information into one coherent multilingual system. Large-scale imagery and detailed specifications retain the focus on each residence, while the expanded component library supports consistency across markets and content types. The design responds specifically to the needs of Spain’s international property audience while remaining recognisably part of the wider Sotheby’s International Realty digital ecosystem.
